Molly's Malady

Today I was supposed to be going to The Quilted Crow's Autumn Gathering at Campania. Unfortunately, this poor old thing had other plans.

Dear old Molly had a huge (and I mean HUGE!) blood blister removed from her ear yesterday, hence the new head gear to stop her scratching at it. She has a splint stitched to her ear which will have to stay there for 3 weeks. She also had a growth taken off her eyelid ... last night she was so miserable and wobbly there was no way I was leaving her home today.

I am really looking forward to reading the other Tassie girls blogs .... I'm sure they had a wonderful time. It is always a great day.

I had even made myself a new bag to take.

The pattern is by Rosalie Quinlan Designs and is called Jelly Roll Project Bag.

I have not made many bags before so I'm rather proud of how it turned out.

I used a Fig and Plum jellyroll by Figtree Quilts ... their fabrics are always divine.

P.S. Do you like my new 3 column layout? I followed the directions here to convert from a 2 column layout.

  1. I hope Molly is better soon, she should be fine with lots of TLC. I'm loving the bag - the stitching is great and that fabric is right up my street.

Love the layout too - those birdies are just too cute.

    Blessings

  20. Your precious girl is looking a bit rough. Good thing she has her mom to take such good care of her. I can only imagine how desperately she wants to scratch that ear. Your bag is very cute. Sorry that you missed out on your Autumn Quilt Shop Day with the girls. It's Spring here in Minnesota - seems strange to read that you are doing Autumn things.

  31. Poor Molly! I suspect she will love all the extra attention you'll give her until she's well, Christine! We had to put one of those awful collars on our kitty one time - I felt so bad as she just didn't understand! Hope she's well soon!

  33. Oh your poor baby and poor you, it is so distressing when the animals get sick, I think you made a good choice to stay home with her, you can go to the gathering next time. Love your bag it looks like a handy size and nice with the co-ordinating fabrics. I like the new look of your blog too,the three columns look really good, especially with the little birdies. Give Molly a big hug for me and I hope she is better very soon :)

  36. Oh yes, the nasty old aural hematoma, poor Molly! Our Saint Bernard, Bucky, had one of those years ago. I'm glad your vet went straight to the splint; that should do the trick. Our vet initially tried to just drain the darn thing, only to have it fill right back up. Poor Bucky had to have his ear shaved (he looked so lopsided) and have mattress stitches with bugle beads "installed" on his ear. Apparently the key is to get the ear to make lots of scar tissue so the hematoma (blood blister) won't reform. It worked for Bucky, he never had another problem; I hope Molly is as lucky. Poor old girl! I remember Bucky coming home, still groggy from the aenestesia. He HAD to walk the perimeter of our yard, as always (duty before sleep), so I walked it with him to keep him from bumping into things and falling over. He's been dead almost 13 years; still miss old Buck.

    Happy stitching,
    Susan
