at Stewart's Sewing Centre in Burnie yesterday. Haven't had a chance to try it yet ... will do a test on some scrap fabric first.
Also came home with these fabrics ... My Folklore by Lecien. Kathy is going to use them to make me a bag.
I completed this cushion last night ... my second January finish for the One Project a Month Challenge. I wanted to have a practise run at putting the quilt-as-you-go log cabin blocks together before I tackled the quilt. It is quite big ... about 22 inches square.
I used a Clover bias maker to make the strips that cover the joins and ...
used the automatic button hole stitch on my machine. Had a practise on a scrap of fabric first as it is years since I last used this feature. I love this Charleston fabric by Judie Rothermel.
I liked your pillow very much. Lovely colour on the fabrics. I think I have to have a closer look at the new fabric from Lecien.. they were very pritty. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeleteHope the Fray Stoppa works for both of us:) I saw what you did and thought great idea so I did it too then saw your next post too late, crying really like what you have been up to love the log cabin
ReplyDeleteI have never seen Fray Stoppa, I have used a product by Dritz called FrayCheck. That also seems to do the trick. You cushion looks wonderful. Don't you just love that automatic buttonhole feature. Even though it doesn't get used a lot, it is fantastic to have it there when you do need it!
ReplyDeleteThe blue & brown color combination in your pillow is a winner! You were smart to give the technique a try before doing a big quilt.
ReplyDeleteHope this will help you with your frizzy blocks...
ReplyDeleteOh the pillow looks great.. are you about to start the quilt soon??
Fantastic cushion in fantastic fabrics! And welcome to the club!
ReplyDeleteI have never used that Fabric fray, let me know how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteLove the pillow....
Congratulations Christine.... your blog is fantastic !!! Sorry, but my englis is not very good. I like cross sticht doing, and I do a little patch too. One of my 2009's project is doing the Trully. I alreade have the fabrics.. I'm waiting for the patterns.

ReplyDeleteYour pillow looks fabulous.

ReplyDeleteLet us know about fray stop/
Oh I love that cushion.. of course I am biased as I think Judie Rothermels stuffs are wonderful...
ReplyDeletegood luck with the fray stoppa, I used something like that when I did some interlocking.. wasn't overly impressed, but we have to try these things and that was a bazillion years ago too...
Your Cushion looks Lovely...oh! but I am in love with the Folklore Fabric that is Divine...Good Luck with the Fray Stop..
ReplyDeletecheers
wonderful lecien fabrics and your pillow is really nice!

I just love these blocks and colour combinations! I still want some of those blue centre square and tan paisley fabrics, I know they are sturbridge village and I have them in green and pink but never saw the blue or tan. With the blocks I would have added the borders after I had done the stitching.
ReplyDeleteLove those Lecien fabrics and love the cushion, too. I must check back to see if you explain your quilt-as-you-go method - I have done it, but some time ago and I have a quilt ready to go together - hope I find out something new - the bias cove strips are new to me!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
Just love the Judie Rothermel fabric in your cushion,(brown is my favourite colour),some of those are in my stash. The cushion has a lovely crisp finish, your're a clever girl. Your 'My Folklore' by Lecien is going to be a beautiful bag. It's a really nice day, bet the sea looks sparkling blue over your way, have a great weekend, Debs.
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me what Quilt shop you brought the FOLKLORE fabric from...I have been looking online but to no avail...I love it thanks for sharing...
ReplyDeletecheers
Beautiful Work! I love that fabric too!! So thats how you join the Quilt as you go blocks!! Very clever! Cathyx
ReplyDeleteYour cushion is beautiful! I am very new to patchwork and quilting and at the moment find it all quite scary espcially the cutting! Have managed to make a little cushion, but you have inspired me to try a log cabin one. Wish me luck!

I just love those brown and blue prints you have used for that cushion!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look for the fray stoppa, I think it's very handy. Your pillow looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour pillow is gorgeous and the folklore fabric is lovely. A friend of mine is doing a Baltimore and she uses the Fray Check. She is very happy with it, especially for the very small applique pieces. I wish I had some. I finished the Bunny Hill basket today. The starpoints were rather fraying.
ReplyDeleteIs it put together with the strips on both sides?
ReplyDeleteThe cushion is darling and I love the My folklore fabric. I've been wanting some!
ReplyDeleteI just can't wait to see the bag that will be made from the gorgeous Lecien fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely pillow!
Margaret
