OPAM Finish

Thanks to everyone who offered advice on the fraying problem I wrote about in the last post. I found this ...

at Stewart's Sewing Centre in Burnie yesterday. Haven't had a chance to try it yet ... will do a test on some scrap fabric first.

Also came home with these fabrics ... My Folklore by Lecien. Kathy is going to use them to make me a bag.

I completed this cushion last night ... my second January finish for the One Project a Month Challenge. I wanted to have a practise run at putting the quilt-as-you-go log cabin blocks together before I tackled the quilt. It is quite big ... about 22 inches square.

I used a Clover bias maker to make the strips that cover the joins and ...

used the automatic button hole stitch on my machine. Had a practise on a scrap of fabric first as it is years since I last used this feature. I love this Charleston fabric by Judie Rothermel.

  3. I have never seen Fray Stoppa, I have used a product by Dritz called FrayCheck. That also seems to do the trick. You cushion looks wonderful. Don't you just love that automatic buttonhole feature. Even though it doesn't get used a lot, it is fantastic to have it there when you do need it!

  4. The blue & brown color combination in your pillow is a winner! You were smart to give the technique a try before doing a big quilt.

  14. I just love these blocks and colour combinations! I still want some of those blue centre square and tan paisley fabrics, I know they are sturbridge village and I have them in green and pink but never saw the blue or tan. With the blocks I would have added the borders after I had done the stitching.

  15. Love those Lecien fabrics and love the cushion, too. I must check back to see if you explain your quilt-as-you-go method - I have done it, but some time ago and I have a quilt ready to go together - hope I find out something new - the bias cove strips are new to me!

  19. Your cushion is beautiful! I am very new to patchwork and quilting and at the moment find it all quite scary espcially the cutting! Have managed to make a little cushion, but you have inspired me to try a log cabin one. Wish me luck!

  22. Your pillow is gorgeous and the folklore fabric is lovely. A friend of mine is doing a Baltimore and she uses the Fray Check. She is very happy with it, especially for the very small applique pieces. I wish I had some. I finished the Bunny Hill basket today. The starpoints were rather fraying.
