Shaggy Linen Quilt

When I went to the Australasian Quilt Convention in February, I bought a kit for a Shaggy Linen Quilt from Quilter's Barn. The linen fabrics are just divine ... make me think of France.

This is the first time I've tried a shaggy quilt and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it went together.

Here are close-ups of some of my favourite fabrics:
I like the back as much as the front ...
and the pink binding fabric is gorgeous.
All I have to do now is wash it in warm water and dry it in a dryer to make it really shaggy. Think I will take it to a laundrette!

  9. Christine, the fabrics are gorgeous - so bright and cheery! I made the mistake of laudering a shaggy quilt at home - it took forever to rid my dryer of all the lint, so yes, next time I'll go to the laundrymat!
    Cheers!

  14. Hi Christine
I made one of these quilts a few years ago, and the lady who showed me, gave me a few tips.. when you wash it, put it in a pillow slip or make a pillow slip to fit it in.. I washed mine this way to stop the lint from drifting into my machine (Oh I sewed it into the pillow slip btw).. when it was finished, I cut it out and then when you dry it, put it in the dryer with some tennis balls, or some jeans, and clean the filter out a LOT, I mean every 20-30mins for the first hour or two.. mine came up super fluffy, but you will not beleive how much lint it creates! I vacuumed mine before I washed it as well.. my hubby thought I was mad (well ok, it confirmed to him that I was mad) and doing this with a brush on my vacuum, the barrel got quite full..

    take care

  20. Cute quilt !
It is no batting, right ?
Maybe this is a fast and easy way to do care quilts ?
Do you think it works with ordinary quilt fabrics too, or will it be to flimsy ?

  29. Hi, Not to sound like a lonely-hearts ad but I am 19 years old and have just taken up sewing, I really want to take on doing a shaggy rug like yours (which is gorgeous btw) but have no idea where to start or what to do. I have all my own fabrics but would be ecstatic if you could give me any pointers on how to get started and what I'll need etc. You can contact me at

    I adore your work! Thanks,
    Sarah.
