Bibelot

It's not quilted yet but I have finished the top of my version of Bibelot, the March quilt for Another Year of Schnibbles.

Bibelot can be made from two charm packs. I chose to cut my own 5 inch squares rather than using a particular range ... I love the scrappiness that results.

Aqua, red and grey (with white) is a colour combination I love at the moment. I am gradually building a nice little stash of grey fabrics to use in future projects.

I changed the setting slightly by using sashing between the blocks and rows. In the pattern they are built in as part of the block but I wasn't coping with the randomness so opted for a more ordered approach. My border is also a little different to accommodate the slightly smaller size of the centre.

I am very happy with the finished top and keen to try a larger quilt in these colours soon .... maybe Swoon.

Heavenly Hexies 1

In between other projects, I have been slowly making the hexies for my Vignette Hexagon quilt. I thought it might be fun to do a weekly post to keep track of my progress ... I am aiming for a hexie a day. Some of these you have already seen but I hope you won't mind indulging me as I work my while through the ever-growing pile.

I am planning to make my quilt bigger than the original so will need to make 196 hexie flowers. I am going to be busy for quite a while yet!

Christmas Fun

This weekend I started my Christmas Fun quilt. It is a Lynette Anderson design I purchased last year as a block of the month from Sarah. Each month I received a pattern including a hand painted button. There are eight Ohio Star blocks in the quilt each measuring 3 inches. I decided to make all eight while I was feeling motivated. They were a bit fiddly but turned out ok. The fabrics are Glace by 3 Sisters ... I still have plenty of scraps in this range.

I have prepared 3 of the blocks ready to stitch in the evenings ... Cookies,

 The Pudding and ...

 Christmas Cottage.

The weather was gorgeous here this weekend. I have enjoyed pottering about in an out of the sewing room. Hope your weekend was a good one too.

Red, White and Blue

I belong to a quilting group called Material Girls. There are only six of us and last year we each made the others a small gift for their birthdays. It was so much fun we decided to do it again this year. Vicki chose red, white and blue for her theme and I made her this little bag from a tutorial posted by Sherri of A Quilting Life.

All the fabrics were from my stash and include Bliss, Lecien basics and some Lakehouse and Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I managed to get it finished in a single afternoon and was very pleased with the finished product.

I took these photos on my recently painted kitchen dresser.

Today I started my March Schnibble quilt. February's didn't happen but I am determined to be more productive this month. Tomorrow is a holiday in Tasmania so hoping to get into the sewing room again.

Grow, Cook and Eat

This year our Friends in Stitching birthday swap has the theme of "Grow, Cook and Eat". We have to make our swap partner a gift that is based on one, two or all three of those words. Each year I am the first in our lovely group to have a birthday (yes, I was 45 on Monday ... ancient!) so today I am going to share the lovely presents I received from Kerry. I have met Kerry several times which makes them just a little more special.

Kerry wrote, 'the flowers on the apron are grown, the apron and the cookie cutters are for cooking and if the cupcake pincushion was real you could eat it. 'Blackberry Jam and Cream' is for cooking.'

I LOVE the floral fabric Kerry used for my apron ...

and just look at the awesome pink ric-rac.

I thought this was a really clever way to use the Moda tape that is used to tie up those delicious Moda jelly rolls.

I think the adorable pincushion is a Bareroots design.

This is the back ... so clever and cute!

I was really pleased to receive a copy of Kerry's Blackberry and Cream book. It has quilting projects and lots of lovely recipes inside.

On Monday night I also received some gorgeous red and white presents from the Material Girls which I will share in a later post. We are still painting here and between that and trying to get ready for school next week my sewing has ground to a screeching halt. Hopefully by the weekend I will get back to it.

January Schnibble

The last few days we have been very busy doing some inside painting but I was still determined to finish my January Schnibble before the end of the month. So here is Full House all quilted and bound.

I added simple straight line quilting hoping it would suit the linear nature of the quilt ...

and a red on white spot for the binding.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing what Sherri and Sinta have chosen for our February Schnibble. Can't wait to get started.

Christmas Gifts

This is the lovely gift I received from Sue for the Friends in Stitching Christmas swap. Sue made me this awesome bag ...

(Olly likes it too!)

and pincushion from the Anni Downs' latest book, Some Kind of Wonderful.

Very cute! Thanks Sue.

I made for Sarah and after lots of procrastinating decided to make her the tree skirt from Natalie Ross' book Get Red Red Ready for Christmas.

Once I started, I discovered it wasn't actually that difficult! I enjoyed working on the appliqued lady bugs ...

and cute little  presents.

Sarah also received this stocking in matching fabrics made from a Fig Tree pattern.

To finish, I must show you the gorgeous string bag I received from Chris M at our Material Girls Christmas dinner. Such a clever idea and so very cute. Thanks Chris. I LOVE it.

Today I worked on my dresdens ... have made 7 plates so must share again soon .... and sewed block 8 of my 2011 FQS Mystery quilt. The last couple of weeks seem to have zipped by and it is now only 2 weeks until school begins again. Can't say I'm looking forward to it but I guess it will be okay once I get started again. Have a good weekend.
